Cyrix Cx5x86

From Misc Data Digs

Disabled Features[edit | edit source]

A few features were disabled on the processor prior to production due to these not being stable, but can still be activated with third-party software.

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Branch Prediction (using the BTB_EN bit (bit 1) for the PCR0 register)
  • Load/Store Reordering (using the LSSER bit (bit 7) for the PCR0 register)
  • Linear Address Burst Cycles (using the LINBRST bit (bit 2) for the CCR3 register)

Overclocking[edit | edit source]

The Cyrix Cx5x86 can be overclocked up to 120 MHz safely. Anything above this, including the initially intended speed of 133 MHz, tends to make the chip unstable especially without a heatsink attached.
