Paper Phoney Run 2 (2022 Scratch game)

From Misc Data Digs

Paper Phoney Run 2 is a game I doubt you've ever heard of. This game only lasted a little over over half a year after it was released due to it being to big for Scratch, the platform it was stuck on. The game is now only playable on Turbowarp (a Scratch mod.) Any attempts to play it without Turbowarp results in most things not loading properly. The game borrowed many aspects from Run Sackboy! Run! (iOS) and My Singing Monsters of all things. Despite that though the game was alright, receiving heavy praise from the 1.3K people that actually played it. It was split into 2 portions: The endless runner portion, (which was kind of the main portion) and the Song builder portion. (Which is where the game takes inspiration from My Singing Monsters.) This portion would later go on to be made into its own game, which took even MORE inspiration from My Singing Monsters! Anyway, inside the files of Paper Phoney Run 2 contains a sprite full of unused things, appropriately named "UNUSED" which contains everything on this page.

Unused Graphics[edit | edit source]

PPR2-PhoneyColoured.png

A remnant of an early colour option where the player could add colour to the game by pressing a button on the title screen. This was before the game had the whole story of colour being evil and stuff. Oh yeah, the story was never implemented either!

PPR2-Caverns.png

An unused caverns level for the endless runner portion of the game. It went unused due to the game not looking good with backgrounds with ceilings The music was made for it but was later re-used for the robotic forest background. It was also remixed for the burning version of the robotic forest background.

PPR2-Water.png

An unused water level for the endless runner portion of the game! This one was actually used for most of April 2023 but was replaced shortly after due to it being buggy.

PPR2-Loading rectangle.png PPR2-Loading circle.png

These were used when teleporting to the aforementioned water level during April of 2023. The circle one would appear in the middle of the screen and then grow. once it touched the top and bottom of the screen, it would quickly switch to the rectangle one to fill the whole screen for a few seconds. Then it would basically do the same thing again but in reverse.

PPR2-Big Bunny's pointy robot.png

An early version of Big Bunny's robot. It was scrapped because It didn't look like it was drawn by a 5-year old. (like the rest of the game) However, this sprite served as the basis for all future renditions of Big Bunny's Robot.

PPR2-ICE.png

An early version of the Cooling Ice Cube™ powerup.

PPR2-Turpler.png

An early version of the Turpler sprite with a slightly different antenna. This was actually used until one of the most recent updates!

Unused Audio[edit | edit source]

This game is very musical so it was bound to have some unused audio, and here it is! File:PPR2-Menu-.ogg

The title screen music from early versions Paper Phoney Run 1.

File:PPR2-NN RBT Space.ogg

The unused character on the song builder level, Deep Space. It starts playing about 40 seconds in and was unused because scratch couldn't handle the game anymore.

File:PPR2-H2O.ogg

This is the song that played in the water level during April of 2023. It's a remix of one of the (if not THE) first uploads on the GreenYogurtMusic Scratch account.

Hidden Developer Message[edit | edit source]

Hidden in the "UNUSED" sprite lies two messages from the developer of the game.

1) The Underwater level
in the main game WAS actually in the game for most of April of 2023 but was buggy.

2) Nn rbt space was unused due to scratch not being able to handle the game. And so I couldn't add it in. And so the game will no longer be updated. Thanks for the non exsistant support. I mean don't get me wrong, this game got plenty of support at the beginning, but then everyone forgot about it. So I doubt anyone's actually reading this. I had huge plans for this game, including an ending and a way to beat it. Plus plenty of unused music tracks.

Rest In Peace:

Paper Phoney Run 2

2022 to 2023
--------------------------

Thanks for playing.

Hidden Debug Mode[edit | edit source]

Inside the game there is a hidden debug mode. Below are the instructions on how to activate it.

1) Your username has to be set to GreenYogurtGames (which is easy because in Turbowarp there's an option to set a username)

2) When in game simply enter the following combination on the keyboard:

Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A

While in debug mode, there will be different buttons during the endless runner portion of the game to spawn items, remove obstacles, add an effect to the player and teleport to later levels.

Afterwards, typing MONEY' will give infinite amount of all currency.

Remnants of anniversary update[edit | edit source]

If the game is played on its anniversary, the Scratch user boileyboys' account's anniversary or Paper Phoney Run 1's anniversary, the game will turn into a broken anniversary mode.

The update worked when it first came out, but numerous changes in the code resulted in some aspects becoming broken. It's still playable (probably) but it's clear that it wasn't made with future updates in mind.

And anyway, the prize for completing the anniversary exclusive gamemode is just a rickroll link.

Planned Concepts[edit | edit source]

Originally Paper Phoney Run 2 was going to have some endgame content, before the game stopped getting updates.

Getting every character in the following song builder levels would unlock a final section in the shop: Grasslands, Serene Sea, Deep Space and Murky Murky Swamp.

The endgame section would've contained new characters and song builder levels (the songs for which would go on to be re-used in Phoney Song Builder for the levels: Phoney's House and Desert) But the main thing you'd want would be the sparkling orbs.

Buy 3 of them, and you'll be able to afford the Mystic Sponge, which would unlock a new gamemode for the endless runner called "Final Jog"

After buying it a short transformation cutscene would play and you would be tasked with the simple goal of surviving.

During gameplay there would be a timer on the screen. Phoney wouldn't die from colour, but would instead have a health bar and his orbs would slowly run out. When his orbs ran out that would be Game Over.

Phoney would be locked inside the Mystic Forest level, (The pink grassy field with the occasional pink tree) now completely blanked in colour (in this universe colour is evil)

Phoney would be able to use the mystic sponge every so often to wipe all the colour away adding to his orbs.

Surviving to the end of the timer would have beaten the game, unlocking another new gamemode, "Sparkling Jog"

It would basically be Final Jog but without a timer, making it endless.
