GMod Tower (Garry's Mod gamemode)

From Misc Data Digs

GMod Tower, also known as GMTower was a hugely popular game/modification of the Valve Source Engine. It was made by PixelTail Games and served as the base for the standalone successor Tower Unite. The game went through countless iterations and development cycles, and with that comes some interesting, never before seen leftovers.

Unused Condo Features[edit | edit source]

Upgradable Skybox[edit | edit source]

In the CondoOS panel, there was a planned feature to along with room upgrades, change the skybox/scenary of your Condo. Just like with the room upgrades, these skyboxes where buyable from the CondoOS panel.

Toggleable Blinds[edit | edit source]

Another unused feature was the ability to toggle window blinds for the master bedroom, according to the leftover code, it would've been a button in the upgrade section of CondoOS.

Doormat Skins[edit | edit source]

Most likely a CondoOS option, instead of the default texture, the Condo doormat actually has 5 unused ones.

Unused CondoOS Features[edit | edit source]

Home Screen News[edit | edit source]

A leftover feature in the homescreen was a line of scrolling news text at the top of the screen. This feature seems to be scrapped late in development as the news text can still be seen in the Lobby 2 reveal trailer.

CondoOS News

GMTower News: Today is a great day. | Local News: man yells: "LOBBY, LOBBY EVERYWHERE" before collapsing on the sidewalk. | Stocks: Hats UP 14.2%, pets DOWN 16.7% | Sports: The local team got more points than the opposing team, a victory for tower. | How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie-pop? Scientists say 2953.45

Music Shuffle Option[edit | edit source]

A simple option to shuffle the music, has an icon and code but was never enabled.

Unused Texts[edit | edit source]

"No Guests", "You currently have no guests in your condo"

Unused Items[edit | edit source]

Drumset[edit | edit source]

Found within the code is a fully working drumset, just like the playable piano. Why this item was not added to the game remains unclear, since the whole entity seems to be functioning correctly.

Recorder[edit | edit source]

Only a model for this is found. But was planned to be a playable instrument too.

Unused Lobby Features[edit | edit source]

Extended Pool Area[edit | edit source]

Instead of the final two waterslides and small pool, there was supposed to be an entire area made specifically for the pool. Some footage of this area is found.

Casino Window Area[edit | edit source]

The final casino is completely inside, but there are some signs of the Casino having windows or being on the top floor.

Scrapped Lobby 2 Layouts[edit | edit source]

While Lobby 2 was in development, two alternate layouts were being considered. A indoor layout kind of like how Lobby 1 used to be. And a outside layout, but wider than the current layout.

Particle Store[edit | edit source]

Instead of only the VIP particle, there's a unused shop NPC for selling particles.

Monorail[edit | edit source]

Lobby 2 was supposed to have a monorail riding through the lobby, with the station being behind the Condo elevators.
