"Sonic Gather Battle" is a pretty decent fangame of Sonic The Hedgehog made in the Little Fighters 2 engine released for SAGE 2016-17.

Anti-Hacking[edit | edit source]

For the game to run, the user had to have admin privileges, likely because it checked for any suspicious activity in real-time.

While the game is running, it checked the following...

  1. It checks if Cheat Engine or a similar program is installed.
  2. It checks the name of programs opened, including those that could be used to hack the game.
  3. It checks if the player enter "cheat", "mod", "hack" or any other suspect string in their default search engine.
  4. The game's data integrity check fails.

If any of these are true, the program closes out. If the player re-opens it...

  1. It will play the Mirror Theme from Sonic Adventure during gameplay
  2. The background will be blue, while the foreground will be black.
  3. Red Sonic 3 ghosts will spawn to try killing the player immediately.

Alternatively...

  1. The game will play the Boss music from the US version of Sonic CD
  2. Large ghosts with big red eyes that kill the player immediately on contact will spawn
  3. A filter will appear on top of the gameplay, making it hard to see
  4. The background will turn red.

The only way to disable this was to contact the game's creator.

All of this was implemented by the game's creator in an attempt to prevent people from ripping the sprites.

Nonetheless, the sprites were ripped and submitted to DeviantArt just after this was first documented.

Once this behavior was discovered, the game was made unplayable as no new players could connect to the servers. The behavior was first found, confirmed, and documented with the SAGE 2017 version.
